Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education is not your typical philosophy, I have more cognitivism/constructivism and humanism ideas. Which means that I believe in freedom of students and that they learn from experiences and the environment around them. It also means that I feel everlasting ideas such as literature, art, and philosophy are imperative to teach. Social learning is also a concept that is very important to effective teaching, which means learning by observing and imitating others.

I believe that students should be able to advocate for their own education and learn any opportunity they can. Humans learn best through experience and shared knowledge and that is something teaching in a classroom should imitate. Classrooms should be an open environment with lots of communication and hands on learning. “Education is like a watermelon, full of fiber(learning), juice(fun), and can be very sweet (engaging). The seeds are the students. They’re necessary and without them, there is no growth. By leaving out the seeds of students (as in seedless watermelon), we no longer benefit from the growth. Kids are being left out of their own education. And we wonder why our garden (society) isn’t growing.” (atlaseducational.wordpress.com)
